When I moved to Pittsburgh, one of the first things I did was to get a membership to the Carnegie Museums. I knew I’d be visiting all four museums multiple times in a calendar year, so it made sense. And I can’t wait until the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt re-opens at the Museum of Natural History!

My most recent visit to the Museum of Art was to see the Gertrude Abercrombie exhibition. Something about her works speak to my soul. The mix of everyday objects, animals, natural sceneries, and people come together in her unique dream-like style and palette. Abercrombie reveals her inner longings, fears, and other emotions in her works.

Letter from Karl, 1940 (Union League Club of Chicago). I adore her "painting within a painting” style.

The exhibition also includes her talent in miniatures, which reveal the attention to detail that Abercrombie displays in her larger works in mini form.

The exhibition leaves the art museum on June 1st, so if you find yourself in Pittsburgh, this is a must-see.

What kind of art stirs your soul?
